Memorial garden @ Cambridgeshire Primary School

School memorial garden

Having selected a suitable area within the school grounds we set about creating a memorial garden for a much missed and valued member of the staffing team. The school children were tasked with coming up with as many ideas as possible for the garden. This list featuring flowers, water, shelter, memory tree, places to read, and wildlife friendly became the basis for the design.

The garden is purposefully low maintenance with winding paths cutting through the wildflower meadow leading you to a central secluded section around an old tree stump. The stump has a metal tree guard around it allowing memory ribbons, padlocks to be fixed to it, there is also a central tree bench providing somewhere to sit, read, contemplate. The water feature is in the form of a bird bath and the tree stump is the perfect place for bird/bat boxes to be fixed.

Overall the garden offers a playful yet contemplative place to spend some time in nature.
